About the event
We at DesignJatra are extremely passionate about native timbers. We leave no stone unturned when it comes to propagating information related to this material. One of our ways of promoting this material is by hosting workshops in which we expose participants to the fundamentals of designing with Native woods.
In these workshops, we aim to give hands-on experience to participants working with native wood while making traditional wooden joints. The workshops are conducted in collaboration with timber masons of the Palghar district. Over the years of conducting these workshops, we now have a significant wood joinery library from which the participants learn.
The workshop is designed as a course of three weekends; introductory, intermediate, and advanced. By the end of the third weekend, the participants would know all the structural calculations necessary for any timber structure design, and also to make a small object (for eg: a wooden stool).
